With just over 400 days to go until the opening of the Paris 2024 Games, the French-speaking world of sport is gearing up for battle. The recent visit to the French capital by Chad’s Abakar Djermah (pictured above), President of the Association of Francophone National Olympic Committees (AFCNO), is a case in point. In Paris, the African leader met a number of major players from the French-speaking world, including the Secretary General of the OIF, Louise Mushikiwabo, and the Director General of the International Committee of the Games of La Francophonie, Zeina Mina. Above all, Abakar Djermah presented and detailed the AFCNO’s strategy for the period 2023-2026, four years marked by the successive organisation of the 2023 Games of La Francophonie in Kinshasa, the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, and then the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar. The AFCNO’s priorities include a project to organise the first edition of the AFCNO Games at the end of 2024, the holding of a seminar for French-speaking sports leaders in France before the Paris 2024 Games, and finally the organisation of the AFCNO General Assembly on the sidelines of the Paris 2024 Games.
