The 2021 World Cup officially postponed

It’s official: the Women’s Rugby World Cup will not take place this year. The World Rugby Executive Committee on Tuesday, March 9th, approved last week’s recommendation to postpone the tournament to 2022. The competition was originally scheduled to take place from September 18th to October 16th, 2021 in New Zealand. The new dates will be communicated in the coming weeks, after consultation with the main players in the organisation. The venues, however, remain unchanged, with the tournament remaining in Auckland and Whangarei. During the same meeting, the World Rugby Executive Committee validated the principle of a preparation program for teams qualified or still in the qualification phase. Its cost: 2.3 million euros. They will offer the teams an international competition with the aim of giving them every chance to reach their best level in New Zealand next year.
