Thursday, May 6th, was a great night for tennis during the Laureus Awards ceremony, held virtually from the Spanish city of Seville. Rafael Nadal and Naomi Osaka won two of the most coveted awards, Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year. The Spaniard is a regular, since he had already been rewarded three times. The Japanese woman won her second award. The American Billie Jean King received a Laureus award for her entire career. FC Bayern Munich, Champions League winner, was named Team of the Year 2020. British driver Lewis Hamilton was recognized for his social commitment. FC Liverpool Egyptian player Mo Salah won the Laureus trophy for sports inspiration. Canadian skier Max Parrot, a slopestyle and big air specialist, was also awarded in the comeback of the year category for his successful battle with cancer. The sports revelation trophy was awarded to Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs’s quarterback, winner of the 2020 Super Bowl. A street soccer program, Kickformore, created by a German organization, won the Laureus Sport for Good award. The “Sports Moment” award went to American Chris Nikic, the first triathlete with Down’s Syndrome to complete an Ironman.
