Ten new scholarship recipients among refugees

The IOC’s Olympic Refugee Foundation (ORF) is still recruiting. With the Paris 2024 Games less than a year away, it has announced that it has awarded a series of ten new scholarships to refugee athletes (pictured above). The ten scholarship recipients – seven men and three women – from the latest promotion represent six sports (cycling, shooting, taekwondo, judo, boxing and athletics). Hailing from four countries (Venezuela, Iran, Ethiopia and Afghanistan), they were welcomed by five nations: Sweden, Denmark, Peru, Italy and Mexico. With these ten new scholarship holders, ORF now has 63 refugee athletes on scholarship. They come from 12 nations, live in 23 host countries and compete in 13 sports. The scholarship program for refugee athletes was launched by the IOC following the participation of the first-ever Refugee Olympic Team at the Rio 2016 Games. The composition of the Refugee Olympic Team for the Paris 2024 Games will be announced next year.
