Will the economic crisis wreak havoc on the international winter sports calendar? According to AFP, the Swedish Ski Federation has been forced to cancel a leg of the Big Air World Cup, one of the freestyle skiing disciplines, because it has not found the private partners needed to finance it. The competition was due to take place on 25-26 November in Falun, central Sweden. “We haven’t managed to raise the money,” admitted Stefan Karlsson, who is in charge of snowboarding and freestyle skiing at the federation. “This summer and autumn, the global context has changed, rates have risen, there have been concerns about the war… A lot of things have affected the companies and they can’t invest in such events anymore.”
