Sweden replaces China

Change of scenery. The next ski cross and snowboard cross world championships, initially scheduled for this year in China, will finally take place in Sweden. The two disciplines will be united on the same site, in the Swedish resort of Idre Fjäll, from February 11 to 13, 2021. The Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Worlds for all disciplines should have been held this year in Zhangjiakou, China, site of the Olympic events at the Beijing 2022 Winter Games, but the International Ski Federation (FIS) announced last December that the event would be moved due to the health crisis. It is now accepted that the 2021 Worlds will be split into several places. Sweden will therefore have ski cross and snowboard cross. The other disciplines – moguls, vault, halfpipe, slopestyle and big air – could take place in Calgary, Canada. The city of Alberta has expressed interest in hosting the Worlds, but it still needs the green light, and funding, from state and local authorities.
