Sponsors reassured by the choice of Seiko Hashimoto

Seiko Hashimoto, the new president of the Tokyo Games, suggested it as soon as she took office on Thursday, February 18th: her priority in the coming weeks will be to “restore confidence” around the next Olympic event. Nothing has been won yet, far from it, but the first signs are rather encouraging. According to Kyodo News, the Tokyo Games partners, volunteers and torchbearers would have welcomed the selection of the Olympian from seven appearances to succeed Yoshiro Mori. Akio Toyoda, chairman of Toyota Motor Corp. one of the main sponsors of the Olympics, said he “sincerely welcomes” Seiko Hashimoto. The Japanese leader was one of the first to publicly criticise Yoshiro Mori’s sexist comments. “I would like her to show leadership that will unite Japan into one team“, suggested company manager Ajinomoto, another national sponsor of the Tokyo Games. Kyodo News also collected testimonials from future volunteers and torchbearers. Many of them believe that the new chair of the organising committee is a good choice, not least because of her experience as a medalist and a politician.
