Spain close to giving up

The end of an adventure? According to several Spanish media, the bid for the 2030 Winter Games in the Pyrenees and Barcelona is in its final days. The president of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), Alejandro Blanco, is close to giving up and abandoning the project for good. The reason for this is the inability of the two regions concerned, Catalonia and Aragon, to reach an agreement on the distribution of venues. Meetings have been held over the last few months between representatives of the two regions, the State and the WCC. They have never resulted in any compromise. The most recent one, held last week (7 June), ended in deadlock. No new meeting is scheduled. If he cannot present a solid file to the IOC, or find a plan B for the Pyrenees-Barcelona project, Alejandro Blanco is said to be about to give up.
