There’s no doubt about it: Slovakia now wants to be on the sporting map, at least in Europe. With a priority target: young people. The city of Banska Bystrica, which will host the next edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) from 24 to 30 July, has just won the bid to host the European Athletics Championships for the under-18s in 2024. The Slovakian city was provisionally designated by European Athletics last month, pending the signing of the contract with the local authorities. The provisional became final after a unanimous vote by the city council. Banska Bystrica is no stranger to the world of athletics, having already hosted the European Cross Country Championships, several editions of the European Walking Team Championships and a European Throwing Cup. The next European Athletics Under-18 Championships will take place from 4 to 7 July 2022 in Jerusalem.
