Sebastian Coe still believes in cross-country at the Games

Sebastian Coe, the president of World Athletics, has had his plans to include cross-country on the Paris 2024 Games program rejected by the IOC. The executive board of the Olympic body rejected the idea of a mixed relay last December. But the British leader is not giving up. He told NBC Sports, “I think the IOC’s point of view was that now was not the time to add sports or disciplines, therefore costs, to the Olympics. But they certainly haven’t closed the door to the concept of cross-country. The IOC left it open more than open. Discussions will therefore continue, in the hope that once we get past Tokyo and manage to organise them, we will have a little more leeway. Maybe in Los Angeles in 2028“.
