Sales are booming

A Bing Dwen Dwen effect? No doubt. According to figures from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, online sales of official Beijing 2022 products increased 21.2 times during the Chinese New Year holidays. The official mascot, the ice panda, was the most ordered item and is now out of stock in official shops in Beijing and the rest of China. The same growth spurt in winter sports items. Online sales of ski equipment were up 62.9% compared to the same period a year earlier. Purchases of winter sports clothing rose by 61.2%. Another less expected effect of the Beijing Games is that several digital food delivery platforms have seen their orders increase by more than 10% compared to the Chinese New Year period in 2021. The Chinese authorities attribute this phenomenon to the Olympic effect, as Chinese people turn away from restaurants to dine at home while watching the events on television.
