Bad move. The national security coordinator for the Paris 2024 Games, Ziad Khoury (pictured above), has been suspended from his duties. The reason is a report of “inappropriate behaviour” towards a woman during a trip to London. The news is official, as it has been confirmed by his employer, the French Ministry of the Interior, after it was revealed by Le Canard enchaîné. An administrative investigation has been launched and is expected to report its findings “within a month“. In the meantime, Ziad Khoury was suspended on 21 March “on a precautionary basis“. His deputy is to act as interim director. According to the ministry, no complaint has been filed against him. The former prefect of the Aisne allegedly made inappropriate comments to a woman in December 2021. Ziad Khoury was appointed in June 2021 as director of the National Coordination for the Security of the 2024 Olympic Games (CNSJ), where he had succeeded another prefect, Pierre Lieutaud. He has already worked on the security of a major sporting event, the Euro 2016 football tournament in France.
