His suspension has still not been lifted, but the Russian national soccer team is gearing up for a busy September. The federation’s press service (RFU) has announced that it will play two friendly matches in Egypt, against the national team. They are scheduled for September 7 and 11 in the Egyptian city of Suez. According to the RFU, the Russian squad will be made up of young players born in 2001 and 2002. They will be up against an Egyptian side also made up of players in the same age group. Russia has been excluded from all competitions by FIFA and UEFA since February 28, 2022. This exclusion also applies to Russian clubs. It is already a foregone conclusion that Russia will not be able to take part in soccer tournaments at the Paris 2024 Games, as the possible participation of Russian athletes – still under discussion at the IOC – is limited to individual sports only.
