Russia out in force at European championships

Its presence at the Paris 2024 Games is still uncertain, but Russia will be out in force next month at the European judo championships. They are due to take place from November 3 to 5 in Montpellier, in the south of France. According to the TASS agency, citing a communication from the international federation (IJF), the delegation of neutral athletes carrying Russian passports will include 17 judokas (9 men and 8 women). Heading the list is Madina Taimazova (pictured above), bronze medallist in the under-70kg category at the Tokyo 2020 Games. In accordance with the IOC’s recommendations, the athletes from Russia will take part in the event under the cloak of neutrality. They will parade behind the flag of the International Judo Federation.
