Roxana Maracineanu gives up the trip

The outbreak of COVID-19 continues to cut into the French representation at the Beijing Winter Games. The athletes are spared, but the officials are falling one after the other. Roxana Maracineanu, the minister in charge of sports, announced that she would not be able to travel to China. Tested positive on Tuesday 8 February, she must remain isolated for five days. She was due to attend the Winter Games from 11 to 15 February. “I’m sorry, she said at a conference on sport and sustainable development at UNESCO. My wish was to show the athletes all the consideration they deserve as Minister of the Republic.” Roxana Maracineanu joins Paris 2024 OCOG President Tony Estanguet and CNOSF President Brigitte Henriques in the list of health-related withdrawals.
