World Athletics has lifted the veil on the new walking event, a mixed relay, which will make its debut in the athletics program at the Paris 2024 Games. It will be contested by teams of two athletes, one man and one woman, who will take turns on a course of 42.195 kilometers – the exact distance of a marathon – in four equal stages. In its Olympic debut, the new event will bring together twenty-five teams. The male walker will take the first relay, followed by the female athlete. Each will take a second rotation after the halfway point. The event will take place on the same course as the individual walking events, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. At the Paris 2024 Games, the mixed relay is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, six days after the 20 km walk, with a start time of 7:30 am.
