Quebec disqualified

End of the road for Quebec’s bid for the Winter Games in 2030. The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) announced via a press release, Monday, April 26th, that the file assembled by the businessman Mark Charest did not meet the IOC’s requirements. “Although we believe that Quebec City has the potential to present the viable candidacy in the future, the COC assessed, based on our overall analysis and the position of the current mayor, that the ideal conditions were not present to try to host the Winter Games in 2030″, explained David Shoemaker, director and secretary general of the Canadian Olympic Committee, in a letter sent to Mark Charest. This is due to the lack of strong political support, the mayor of Quebec having repeated on numerous occasions in recent months his opposition to an Olympic candidacy. Quebec now out of the race, the city of Vancouver remains the only one in contention for a possible Canadian candidacy for the Winter Games in 2030.
