The legacy of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is already a reality. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced that six of the eight stadiums used for the last global tournament will be used next year for the Asian Cup of Nations (12 January to 10 February 2024). These are the International Khalifa, Al-Janoub, Education City, Ahmed Ben Ali, Al-Thumama stadium in Doha, and Al-Bayt stadium in Al-Khor. The only two stadiums for the 2022 World Cup that were not selected for the Asian Cup were the Lusail Stadium, where the final between Argentina and France was played, and the very atypical 974 Stadium, made up of 974 containers, which is due to be dismantled soon. The Asian Cup of Nations was originally scheduled to be held in China this year, but the Chinese authorities decided last year to withdraw the organization, citing the health crisis and its consequences on the preparation of the continental tournament. It was relocated to Qatar and postponed until early 2024.
