There’s no longer any doubt about it: next year, Russia will indeed host the first edition of the BRICS Games. Vladimir Putin confirmed this himself on Wednesday August 23, at a meeting in Moscow of the organization’s member countries (Russia, Brazil, India, Brazil and China). “We hope to organize the BRICS Games in June 2024,” he told the other heads of state. The Russian president said the multi-sport event, scheduled for June 12-23 in Kazan, would feature a mix of traditional sports and eSport disciplines. Last May, Vladimir Putin asked his government to come up with ideas for new sporting events designed to give Russian athletes the opportunity to compete internationally. The creation of the BRICS Games was subsequently announced by Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin.
