Will the Canadian city of Vancouver launch a bid for the 2030 Winter Games? Nothing has been decided yet in British Columbia, but the project’s proponents should be able to count on public support. According to an independent poll published by Insights West, 55% of the Canadian province’s residents would support a new Winter Games bid. The support rate rises to 77% if the bid is financed by the private sector, as proposed by John Furlong, the former Vancouver 2010 Olympic boss and instigator of the project. 24% of the people questioned declared themselves to be “strongly” supportive of the bid, with 31% admitting to “somewhat” backing the project. In the opposite camp, 19% of the responders said they were rather opposed to it. Finally, 26% express a strong opposition to the Vancouver Olympic project. The survey was conducted online from April 28th to 30th among 883 British Columbia residents.
