Open doors at the International Broadcasting Centre

IBC Tokyo

Perfect timing. With exactly one month to go before the Opening Ceremony, the international broadcast centre (IBC) of the Tokyo Games officially opened its doors on Wednesday, June 23rd. It is located in the eastern part of the Tokyo Big Sight, the imposing exhibition centre standing tall in the Koto district. The building also houses the main print media centre (MPC). At this stage, only an information desk and a café have been opened. But five broadcasters, including foreign organisations, have already started setting up studios and equipment. More than 100 broadcasters are expected to attend the IBC during the Games. Like anywhere else in the Olympic bubble, anti-coronavirus measures are being applied at the MPC and the IBC. Entrants are asked to take their temperature and disinfect their hands. Plastic partitions have been installed in the restaurants to separate table seats. According to the IOC, 70-80% of accredited media representatives should be vaccinated before the opening of the Tokyo Games.
