One million doses for supporters

Qatar 2022

With more than a year to go before the event, Qatar is already looking into the vaccination issue for the 2022 World Cup (November 21st to December 18th). Sheikh Khaled bin Khalifa al-Thani has announced that the country is currently looking for one million doses of vaccine for the fans who will attend the competition. “Due to the possibility that some countries may not be able to vaccinate all their citizens, we are in negotiations with a company to provide us with one million doses,” the Emir explained on Sunday, June 20th, but without revealing the name of the potential supplier. According to Sheikh Khaled bin Khalifa al-Thani, only foreign spectators who are fully vaccinated will be allowed in his stadiums. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Qatar has recorded 220,800 COVID-19 cases, including 583 deaths. The vaccination campaign has so far injected at least one dose into more than 70% of the population.
