One hundred and ten athletes at the Paris 2024 Games

It’s done. With just over 800 days to go before the event (D – 840), the IOC has validated the course and qualification criteria for triathlon at the Paris 2024 Games. There are some changes, but no real surprises. As at the Tokyo 2020 Games, three medal events will be on the programme: the men’s and women’s individual races, plus the mixed relay. Total participation will be 110 athletes (55 men and 55 women). The qualification period will begin on 27 May 2022 and end on the same day in 2024. France, the host country, is guaranteed to have at least two men and two women (one mixed relay) qualified. The winner of the 2022 World Championships mixed relay, scheduled for 16 June in Montreal, will be awarded two places per gender. The same applies to the winner of the 2023 World Mixed Relay Championships. Otherwise, the top six countries in the Olympic qualification ranking in the mixed relay, as of 25 March 2024, will be awarded two places for men and two for women. On the individual level, the top 26 athletes in the Olympic ranking as of 27 May 2024 will inherit a quota for their country, respecting the maximum number allocated per National Olympic Committee and per event. It should be noted that countries with at least three athletes in the top 30 of the Olympic individual ranking will be entitled to qualify three competitors, while other countries will be entitled to a maximum of two quotas per gender. Finally, it will not be compulsory to participate in the individual events to be part of the mixed relay team.
