Nineteen new COVID-19 cases

Bad sign. A few hours before the opening ceremony, the organizers of the Tokyo Games announced on Friday, July 23rd, that they recorded 19 new COVID-19 cases among the accredited persons. Three of them concern athletes, one of whom was staying in the Olympic village. They were placed in isolation for a period of 14 days. Their identity was not revealed, but they would belong to the delegations of the Czech Republic for two of them and the Netherlands for the third. The other 16 cases include three media representatives. This is the highest number of COVID-19 cases within the Olympic family since July 1st.
