Nine will do double duty

Australia has changed its broadcaster for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. For the first time, the event will be offered by channel Nine. Three months after announcing the acquisition of exclusive rights to the Olympic Games in 2024, 2028 (Los Angeles) and 2032 (Brisbane), plus two upcoming editions of the Winter Games, media group Nine Entertainment Co – which also owns the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Brisbane Times and WAtoday – has added the Paralympic Games to its collection. Channel Seven, the usual rights holder of the Paralympic event, was in discussions with Paralympics Australia to extend its lease. But the Nine Group won the bid. The reasons given were a larger audience and the possibility of covering the event on television, radio and in the print media. Australia finished eighth in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games medal table, with 21 gold medals.
