MMA continues to expand in Africa. After Angola this year, a second African country outside South Africa will host the African championships. The sport’s world governing body (IMMAF) has announced that Namibia will host the continental event in 2024. Long dominated by South Africa, MMA is now gaining ground in Namibia, Angola, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). As a reminder, the IMMAF is still campaigning for recognition by the IOC, but this has always been refused despite repeated efforts over the years and an intense lobbying campaign.
