Medalists will have to do everything

Unforeseen effect of the sanitary crisis: Tokyo Games’ medal presentation ceremonies will follow a new protocol. The medallists will have to take their medal themselves, on the podium, without the slightest handshake or embrace from the dignitaries. Instead, the rewards will be presented to the athletes on a tray. They will have to seize them and put them around their neck. The announcement was made on Wednesday, July 14th, by Thomas Bach during a round-table with the media organized remotely from the Japanese capital. “We are also going to make sure that the people who will put the medals on the stage will do it with disinfected gloves”, specified the president of the IOC. “The presenters and athletes will wear masks. There will be no handshakes or hugs during the ceremony.”
