The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) is stepping up initiatives in the hope of integrating one of its disciplines, flag football, into the Los Angeles 2028 Games. It has announced a partnership agreement with its member federation in France, the FFFA, to launch a development project in the French-speaking world. Its name: “Flag, football et francophonie”. A think tank will be set up, bringing together representatives of all stakeholders. The first phase of the project will start before the end of the second quarter of this year. It will focus on training and education. All French-speaking nations affiliated to the IFAF will be able to participate. According to a press release from the IFAF – a body chaired by a Francophone, the Frenchman Pierre Trochet – the “Flag, football et francophonie” programme also aims to support flag football’s lobbying efforts to force the door of multisport events, both at continental and world level. As a reminder, flag football was selected in the shortlist of the Los Angeles 2028 Games organising committee to be included in the Olympic programme.
