Kosmos puts its balls away

The end for the Kosmos group. The Spanish media Okdiario announces that the company founded by former soccer player Gerard Piqué (pictured above) has closed its tennis subsidiaries, Kosmos Tennis and Kosmos Management. They represented several professional players, including Borna Coric, Daria Kasatkina, Andrey Rublev and Elina Svitolina. Austria’s Dominic Thiem, the first big name to sign with Kosmos, preceded the move by turning his back on the Spanish group earlier this year. Last January, Kosmos’ spectacular breakthrough in professional tennis had already suffered a serious setback when the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced the termination of its contract. It had been signed a little less than five years earlier for a 25-year term and a record $3 billion. Under the terms of the deal, the ITF gave Kosmos the rights to the Davis Cup for a major overhaul of its format.
