Jean Zoungrana gets Europe

France has a new president of an international sporting body. Jean Zoungrana (pictured above), the president of the French Canoeing Federation (FFCK) since 2016, has been elected to head the European Confederation of Canoeing (ECA). The election took place during the ECA’s general assembly, held in Crete. The Frenchman defeated his only rival, the British Albert Woods, by 21 votes to 15. His victory marks a turning point for the European Canoe Association, which had been chaired by Albert Woods since its creation in 1993. The Briton will be able to console himself with the title of honorary president for life of the body. The Frenchman, on the other hand, adds a new position to his mandates as president of the FFCK and vice-president of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF). His new position also secures him a place on the board and executive committee of the International Canoe Federation (ICF).
