Italy think about the World Cup

A Rugby World Cup one day soon in Italy? Why not? The Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) mentioned it for the first time this week. Surprise: its project could be based on the success of football. In a press release published on Wednesday 11 October following a meeting of its Federal Council, the FIR explained that the awarding of the 2032 Men’s Euro to Italy and Turkey could, in time, encourage a bid for the Rugby World Cup. “We hope that this continental tournament will speed up the process of modernising the stadiums needed to enable our country to compete for one of the future editions of the Rugby World Cup“, states the text. Currently ranked 11th in the world, Italy has taken part in all the World Cup finals, but has never progressed beyond the group stage. The next edition of the men’s World Cup to be awarded will take place in 2034, with World Rugby having already entrusted the organisation of the tournament to Australia for 2027 and to the United States for 2031.
