Italy score a hat-trick

The year 2026 will be very Italian in the international sports movement. After the Winter Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, and the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy has just been awarded the organisation of a new multi-sport event: the European University Games. They will take place between July and August 2026 in Salerno, a city of 135,000 inhabitants located in Campania, in the south-west of the country. With this new event, Italian sport will complete a catalogue of competitions that already includes the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOWF) in 2023 and the World University Winter Games in Turin in 2025. The first European University Games took place in 2012 in Cordoba, Spain. It brought together more than 2,500 student-athletes from 32 countries. The next edition is scheduled for this year in Lodz, Poland (17-30 July). The next one will be held in 2024 in Debrecan-Miskolc, Hungary.
