Italians are watching

Logical. Two years before the next Winter Games, the organizers of the 2026 edition in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo have come in force to Beijing 2022. The Italian delegation has 40 people, a large part of which participates in the program of observers proposed by the IOC and the organizing committee. The Italian team has been reduced due to health restrictions. It has also been hit by the COVID-19. The president of Milan-Cortina 2026, Giovanni Malago (also president of the Italian Olympic Committee and IOC member), tested positive before the beginning of the Games. Andrea Monti, the director of the communication, was forced on his side to isolate himself several days in his hotel in Beijing for having been case contact. But the Italians were able to observe the backstage of the Games of Beijing 2022 in almost all the sectors of the organization of the observation program. The same program was followed by the envoys of Paris 2024, Brisbane 2032 and the Winter Youth Games in Gangwon in 2024, but in smaller numbers. For the Paris 2024 OCOG, the delegation still has four people, out of the 12 who came to the Beijing Games, including François-Xavier Bonnaillie, the director of partnership and licensing, and Ludivine Rossebeke, the deputy director of partnerships.
