ISSF opens the door to Russians and Belarusians

The list is still growing. After fencing, table tennis, taekwondo, wrestling, triathlon, modern pentathlon and archery, a new summer Olympic sport opens the door to Russian and Belarusian athletes. The executive committee of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) announced, Wednesday, April 26, its decision to reinstate athletes from both countries under conditions of neutrality. According to the statement of the body, the executive committee “fully supports all measures and sanctions imposed by the IOC against athletes and officials of Russia and Belarus. At the same time, the Executive Committee agrees with the arguments mentioned by the IOC regarding the proposal for the return of the athletes.” An ad hoc commission will be created very soon to establish a timetable for the return of Russian and Belarusian shooters under “strict conditions of eligibility.” In its statement, the ISSF asks the shooting federations of both countries to commit to cooperating with the new commission, including providing all information on athletes likely to return to the international scene. The ISSF was chaired for a long time by the Russian Vladimir Lisin. But the billionaire was defeated by the Italian Luciano Rossi, last December, during the elections for the presidency of the body.
