Predictable. The European Swimming League (LEN) announced on Thursday November 2 that the 2024 European Water Polo Championships will not be held in Israel. They were scheduled to take place from January 3 to 16 in Netanya, some 30km north of Tel Aviv. The reason: the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas. “Following the recent terrorist attacks in Israel, and after extensive meetings between European Aquatics and the Israeli Water Polo Federation, both bodies have agreed that it is impossible to hold the European Water Polo Championships in Netanya, Israel, as planned in January 2024,” it announced in a press release. The LEN has yet to unveil a plan B for the competition, but several options are currently under consideration to replace the continental tournament in the qualification process for the World All-Around Swimming Championships, scheduled for February in Doha, Qatar.
