The end. FIFA announced in a statement on Thursday 9 March the end of an investigation into its president, Gianni Infantino, concerning the use of a “private jet chartered for a flight from Suriname to Switzerland in 2017“. The procedure was opened by Swiss federal prosecutors following revelations by the daily Süddeutsche Zeitung. However, in the end it came to nothing. “It has been confirmed that the travel arrangements were in line with FIFA’s compliance rules and regulations – a decision that is in line with the decision of the FIFA Ethics Committee in August 2020 on this case,” the football body explains in its statement. FIFA also said that the Swiss state “will bear all costs related to the investigation“. Finally, it adds that Gianni Infantino has decided to waive any claim for damages.
