History will be written in La Seu d’Urgell

Legacy is not an empty word in the world of canoeing. The world body of the discipline (ICF) has awarded the Spanish city of La Seu d’Urgell, in Catalonia (photo above), site of the Olympic slalom events of the Barcelona Games in 1992, the organization of the world championships in 2027. For the first time in history, the world event will bring together in one place three whitewater disciplines: slalom, freestyle and open water (wildwater). The 2027 World Championships will serve as a qualifying event for the Los Angeles Games in 2028. The ICF Executive Committee, meeting last week in Budapest, also awarded the Hungarian city of Szeged the 2027 World Sprint and Para-canoe Championships. In the same year, the World Marathon Championships will be held in Silkeborg, Denmark. Finally, the ICF has confirmed that the 2025 World Cup will include stages in Prague, La Seu d’Urgell, Pau (France), Augsburg (Germany) and Tacen (Slovenia) for the slalom, and Szeged and Poznan (Poland) for the sprint.
