German weightlifters cancel their camp in Japan

Tokyo 2020

The series continues. A new foreign delegation has decided not to hold its final training camp in Japan before the Tokyo Games. The German weightlifting team has scrapped its plans to make their preparation in Yamanashi, west of Tokyo, before heading to the athletes’ village. The reason for this are the sanitary risks associated with the coronavirus pandemic. The Yamanashi authorities explained that on Wednesday, June 16th, they received an email from the German team informing them of its decision to abandon the event. The German weightlifters were initially scheduled to stay in Yamanashi from July 7th to 24th. The Japanese city had set up a training hall in the municipal gym that met international standards. It had also established a COVID-19 plan for the German delegation.
