France comes to Ukraine’s aid

The mobilisation of the French sports movement in favour of Ukraine does not falter. The proof is the joint operation led by the humanitarian organisation ACTED and the UNSS (National Union of School Sports) to allow the participation of 37 young Ukrainian athletes in the Gymnasiade Normandie 2022 (14 to 22 May). A bus left France on Tuesday, May 10th to pick up the Ukrainian delegation in Lviv and bring them to INSEP, in the East of the French capital, after a two-day trip through Europe. At the INSEP, the Ukrainian athletes were able to benefit from the best conditions for their stay and preparation. The young athletes are due to be received at the Élysée Palace on Friday 13 May, before setting off for Deauville, where the 19th edition of the largest international multi-sport and educational event dedicated to 15-18 year-olds will open on Saturday 14 May. Ahead of the opening ceremony, the entire Ukrainian delegation – comprising 133 members in total – will parade through the streets of the Normandy town, together with the French delegation and the youth of the world gathered for the event. Organised by the International School Sports Federation (ISF), the 2022 Gymnasiade will bring together in Normandy nearly 3,700 high school students aged 15 to 18 from more than 68 countries. The programme includes 17 competitions and 3 disabled sports events.
