Five for one place

The vote promises to be close and its outcome very uncertain. No less than five candidates are vying for the seat of President of the Russian Athletics Federation (RusAF) on Monday, November 30: Oleg Kurbatov, President of the Moscow Federation; Irina Privalova, the former sprinter, Sydney 2000 Games gold medalist in the 400m hurdles; Peter Ivanov, the president of the Russian Triathlon Federation; Mikhail Gusev, an athlete agent and manager; and finally Andrei Shlyapnikov, also a former sprinter, currently director of the Russian university championships. The winner of the election will succeed Yevgeny Yurchenko, elected last February as president of the RusAF, but resigned in July. RusAF has been suspended for five years by World Athletics.
