First positive athlete in the village

The timing is bad. On Tuesday, August 24th, the Tokyo 2020 Games Organising Committee confirmed the first positive COVID-19 case regarding an athlete in the Paralympic Village. The announcement came just hours before the opening ceremony. His name and nationality were not disclosed, but the Japanese organisers explained that he had been placed in an isolation centre. His participation in the competitions is no longer on the agenda. The athlete is the fifth person to test positive in the village, but only the first among the competitors. A total of 36 people, including 16 athletes, tested positive inside the village between July 1st and August 21st.
