First occupants in the athletes’ village

Village olympique Tokyo

A new box has been ticked on Wednesday, July 7th, on the schedule of the organizers of the Tokyo Games. 16 days before the opening ceremony, the athletes’ village was partially opened to the future tenants. A small opening, since it only concerns officials from some foreign delegations. For the athletes, it will be necessary to wait until the official opening on Tuesday, July 13th – that is to say ten days before the beginning of the Tokyo Games. But they should not be numerous to take possession of their rooms at this date, as the sanitary measures taken by the organizers authorize competitors to settle in the village only five days before their first event. On Wednesday, July 7th, only a few officials preparing the reception of the delegations were able to settle in the village, which covers 44 hectares. The restaurant was also opened on Wednesday morning. For the Paralympics, the athletes’ village will officially open its doors on August 17th, one week before the opening ceremony.
