FINA extends contract with ITA

Two more years. The International Swimming Federation (FINA) took advantage of its annual congress, held last weekend in Budapest on the sidelines of the World Championships, to renew and extend its partnership with the International Testing Agency (ITA). The new lease signed between the two parties runs until the end of 2023. FINA first partnered with the ITA in January 2019, becoming one of the first international federations in an Olympic sport to outsource its anti-doping programme. Under the terms of the new agreement, the ITA will add to its past activities (risk assessment, test planning, implementation of the out-of-competition testing programme, management of the athlete’s biological passport, etc.), a range of new tasks, including the management of in-competition testing, the administration of Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) applications, and the creation of the Registered Testing Pool. ITA will also support FINA in its intelligence and investigation activities.
