FIFA continues to pay

Paradox. Russia has been suspended by FIFA since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, but the international football body continues to pay it its share of the legacy of the 2018 World Cup organised in the country. According to the press service of the Russian Football Federation (RFU), quoted by the TASS agency, FIFA has not stopped its planned payments under the “Legacy Fund” of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. They amount to a total of 100 million dollars. Temporarily suspended at the beginning of the conflict, they would have resumed according to the original schedule. At present, there are no delays in the payments under the FIFA legacy programme,” the RFU said. Payments are being made according to schedule. Last May, Russia had received 45% of the 100 million dollars promised by FIFA. According to RFU president Alexey Sorokin, financial ties between Russia and UEFA have not been severed either. The Russian leader explained last October that his country had been fully compensated by the European body after its decision to withdraw the organisation of the last Champions League final from St Petersburg.
