Original. The International World Games Association (IWGA) has decided to ask the general public to choose the best athletes and teams of the last edition of the multi-sport event, to be held in July 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama (USA). An online vote will begin on Tuesday 10 January via the official website (www.theworldgames.org) and the body’s social networks. It will be open until 31 January. A list of 23 athletes and 12 teams has been drawn up by the IWGA, based on proposals from the international federations involved in the event. Each voter will have to choose two nominees. The process will start with a first round of voting, until 22 January, to determine the 10 finalist athletes and 7 finalist teams. Among the favourites for the title of Athlete of the Year is Colombian Johana Viveros Mondragon (pictured above), an inline skating specialist and five-time medallist (four times gold, once silver) at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham. The World Games bring together athletes from non-Olympic sports or disciplines every four years. The next edition is scheduled for August 2025 in the Chinese city of Chengdu.
