Fanny Smith received her medal

More than a year after the competition, the Swiss athlete Fanny Smith received on Tuesday, April 18 in Lausanne her bronze medal from the Beijing 2022 Winter Games (photo above). It was given to her during a ceremony organized at the Olympic Museum by the IOC and the Swiss Olympic Committee (Swiss Olympic). Thomas Bach himself gave him his medal, fourteen months after the final of the skicross of the last Winter Games. Initially third in the event, the Vaudoise had been demoted to fourth place, therefore at the foot of the podium, for having allegedly impeded the German Daniela Maier. A legal dispute ensued between the two athletes. It was finally settled by a conciliation between all parties, under the supervision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) decided to revise the ranking and place the two young women in third place, awarding two bronze medals, a decision followed by the IOC. This is the second Olympic bronze medal for Fanny Smith, after the one won in the same event at the PyeongChang 2018 Games.
