A return to tradition for the next European Outdoor Athletics Championships, scheduled for June 7-12, 2024 in Rome. For the first time since the 2015 Worlds in Beijing, the walking events will finish in the main stadium. The winners will be crowned in the temple of the Italian Olympic movement, the Stadio Olimpico. The announcement was made on Monday November 20, just 200 days before the opening ceremony. The walkers will complete 19 laps of the Foro Italico – the capital’s emblematic Olympic Park – before finishing at the Stadio Olimpico. Rome has not hosted the European Athletics Championships since 1974. The walking events promise to be one of the highlights of the competition, with Italy holding the Olympic titles thanks to Massimo Stano and Antonella Palmisano (pictured above). The women’s 20 km walk will be the first event on the program, starting at 6:35 p.m. on Friday June 7, 2024.
