Esport will have its medals

Another step forward for electronic sports. Meeting last week in Muscat (Oman) in a general assembly, the Association of Asian Olympic Committees (OCA) confirmed that eSport will be a discipline in its own right at the Asian Games in Hangzhou (China) in 2022. It will therefore distribute medals that will count towards the ranking of nations. Breakdancing has also been confirmed in the schedule for the next continental event. Esports was on display at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. But it featured as a medal sport last year at the Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines. “I hope eSports add value to the Asian Games”, said Haider Farman, OCA Games Director. “I’m sure this will be the case in the future, during the Asian Games 2022 and beyond”.
