The legacy of the 2023 Games of La Francophonie is already underway in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The head of state, Félix Tshisekedi, took advantage of a reception given in honour of the medal-winning athletes and artists to announce his wish to see the country organise the Games of the DRC every year from now on in Kinshasa, on the new sports facilities. They could start as early as next year. Félix Tshisekedi also expressed his wish that the infrastructure built for the Games of La Francophonie should be used as training and preparation facilities for Congolese athletes, at the government’s expense. Finally, he announced the payment of merit bonuses for medal winners and participation bonuses for all athletes taking part. The DRC finished the 9th edition of the Games of La Francophonie (28 July to 6 August) in 9th place in the medals table, with 39 places on the podium (5 gold, 11 silver and 23 bronze medals), its best ever collective result.
