DRC to host CAN 2024

Things have been moving quickly. Less than a month after the end of the Games of La Francophonie (July 28 to August 6, 2023), the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is already putting the legacy of the sporting and cultural event in motion. Next year, it will host the 26th edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) for women’s handball. The continental tournament will be held in the capital, Kinshasa, in one of the facilities built for the Jeux de la Francophonie. The dates have yet to be determined. The decision to award the CAN 2024 to the DRC was taken on Tuesday August 29 at a meeting of the African Handball Confederation. The competition had originally been awarded to Cape Verde, but the archipelago in north-west Africa relinquished the organization. The DRC has never before hosted an African Nations Handball Cup.
